Monday Oct ... yeah, I forget what day it is...

Yeah, I didn't. I was in a costume as were more than a few of my students.

But, I have a different idea about today. I'm all for wearing costumes that are appropriate, and we had those in class. However, I'm also about getting the work done when at work.

I'm sure the grown-ups reading this blog would tend to agree that even if you are at work in a costume, you are still at work. When at work, do the work.

So, we read and got questions to do. We got to page 89 in the text, and we got 12 and 13 as questions for homework tomorrow.

"There was no one else on the island but their eight selves...." - which is something you will need to answer question 13.

We also got the due dates for our current unit.

Friday Oct 28

We were having way too much fun with the "Dun dun duuuuuun" sound in class today.

Oh, we're going to be using that more and more as the novel we're reading goes along.


We got to page 68 today and got 7, 9, 10 and 11 for home work

... Dun dun duuuuuuun!

We had stuff due today.

I collected a respectable percentage of the assignments. Paint me happy.

We also read until page 62 ... was also got to question 6 to do for homework. 1-6 should be done for tomorrow's class.

Wednesday Oct 26

Somebody wore this today on their shirt

So we read today ... we read the word "Panther" ... and wondered out loud about the name of a group of panthers. You know, as in a group of ravens being called a "murder" of ravens. Well, I googled it, and this is the result I got back.

Interesting.

We did read until page 34 of the novel and got questions 1-4 for homework.

Tuesday Oct 25

So .... it's almost the end of The Hunger Games Unit.

We had stuff to hand in today. Questions, character sketches, and theme/terms study .... and I got a pile of them in. Should be a good time for me over the next few days to mark these assignments and get the marks updated for the midterm.

Well, we also got a short quiz on the novel out of the way today, too.

After we got that done, we read to page 18 of the novel And Then There Were None (ATTWN), but I didn't assign any homework as I wanted my students to take some time to work on their material already due.

I also explained that I won't publish the due dates for ATTWN quite yet, as I have had people get confused about due dates before.

Monday oct 24

Today was a day of halves.

The first half of the class, I gave everyone a chance to work on the material due tomorrow. During that time I was able to conference with everyone about their marks and what they had not yet handed in.

I have a few more to go, as a few were away today.

The second half of the class was the start of reading the new novel, And Then There Were None.

What. A. Book.

Today was ... interesting.

I did offer it as a day that my students could work and conference with me on their mini projects and various assignments due shortly. It was ... interesting.

In any case, I did get the links up for the next unit, including the audiobook versionS. Yeap, there is a pretty good paid version on iTunes that I would recommend, but also a "free" version on YouTube. I can't say I've listened to much of that YouTube version, but I found it today ... and posted the link.

Yeah. The OSSLT was "on" today.


Not really, but we worked it out by the end of Period One.

By the end of period two .... we finished the reading of The Hunger Games !

In the end, we have some assigned questions to do ...

Wednesday Oct 19

Well, today was a productive day for us!

We got to page 342 in the novel together - almost done, ALMOST!

Then, we watched the film - it was a little dark, but still, we got to see what it was that the author and filmmaker came together to make happen.

The last image what we saw today was that of President Snow, thinking about what to do about "his Katniss problem".

We'll pick it up there tomorrow and onto next week.

We also set the due dates for the Hunger Games mini projects as Oct 27th

Sorry for the late update - it is a weird week.

Monday we took a peek at the material that is due Oct 25th; the terms/Theme study and the character sketches. We also took a look at the questions that should be kept up to date as we go through the novel.

Then we read to page 288 ... getting close to the end of the book!

Man, I nearly wrote "Monday" in the Post title here ... eeps!

Today was a weird one. We talked about the CA/FA/ISU for the course (we decided we are going to call it the "Final Assessment", by the way).

We also talked about what's going to happen Monday/Tuesday next week. We talked about due dates and we talked about the next unit beginning by the end of next week.

So ... today.

Today we read and talked a bit about the terms from the novel.

We read until page 202. We are in the arena and Katniss has been injured and has recovered. Rue has decided to make an alliance with Katniss. All is as good as they can make it.

Tuesday Oct 4

So .. we chatted a little bit about the quiz we will have on the novel on Thursday. I did give a brief oral outline - that there would be two parts. Part One would be short answer questions, and Part Two would be straight out of the homework and things that we do in class.

We are a little behind where I wanted to be in the novel. We read to page 142 today ... it was a bit of a slog, as we are all expecting the next events when the characters get to the arena.

We ended at the point where the author alludes to Titus Andronicus, a play by William Shakespeare. Clearly, this is not a play I would ever teach to Grade Nines, but you might want to reconsider the idea that "Shakespeare is boring" after taking a peek at Act five of this play. Just saying.

We also got Ch 9 questions 2 and 3 as well as Ch 10 question 2 for homework.

This is going ot be an extremely brief update, as my laptop is almost out of power

We read and discussed the novel. We read until the start of Chapter 9 today and got Ch 7 #1 and2 as well as Chapter 8 #1 and 2 for homework.

We also discussed the due dates for things in class.
