Monday Jan 23

Today was a pretty smooth set up for the week.

I should have talked about getting the SIS working for students. I'll post the instructions on the right-hand side of the blog, in case students forget that timetables will not be printed off for next semester.

We did some poetry, too. I did ask if anyone was ready to go with their poeT presentations or their poeM presentations.

And so, we went right into the "showing students what they need to hand in for the course."

Friday Jan 20

Well, we did a number of poems with the idea of "Carpe Diem" today.

We read ... or rather re-read the poem How to Live by Charles Harper Webb.

Then we watched this

and this

And finally, I showed students that they could download Robert Munch's poems for free on his site.

Friday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Jan 19

Well, I have to admit, I did not know I haven't been updating this blog for son long.

My apologies.

Friday was a regular class day. I'll get my notes for the poems we did in class.

Monday was also a regular day, we read poems and did poet presentations, too.

Well, Tuesday was a "snow" day. Without any snow ... it was slippery, so we'll go with that one. The school was open, I was there, but all the students stayed home.

Wednesday I was not feeling well and I left an assignment for the students to do.

Thursday ... was also a regular day, we read poems and did poet presentations, too.

Thurs Jan 12

Right on to poetry today!

I read this poem in German today, followed by another poem in Spanish. My German isn't bad and it well well. The Spanish, however ... well, I'm still saying sorry for it.

We took up homework on "Mother to Son" after reading "Monsuer Joliat" in class. We read a few other poems, too. Light and fun ones, as well as dark and serious. "The school boy" by William Blake, "Memory from Childhood" by Antio Machado were both read.

For homework, we will do "Pterodactyls" by Marjorie Sallee.

We also signed up for the day we are going to do our Task 3 PoeT presentations.

If you are not sure what day y'all have as "your due date", please ASK!

Wednesday Jan 11

We did a lot of good work today.

We took up homework on "Dignity", "Samsonite" and "Stopped" this morning after doing a few readings by teacher and students at the start of class.

We signed up for our poets for Task 3, today, too.

Which was totally cool.

I also did an example of the Task 3 Presentation on Milton Alcorn by the end of class today, too.

And we did this for homework:

So ... yeah. It snowed today. Buses were cancelled, but we still did some learning.

We read a few poems, like this one and this one.

Then we read "Stopped by the woods on a snowy evening" by Robert Frost for homework.

Monday Jan 9th

So ... Poetry.

Well, let me back this up - we talked about the exam dates at the end of this month first.

I did remind students to go and ask their other teachers if they had an exam during the exam period in their other classes. Normally, it's at this point in time where I joke around and start and exam review for my students and watch them panic.

As I have said, there is no exam for this course. I do have the CA's/Final Assessments completely marked for this course and they are worth 30% of the final mark. There is no exam for this course.

I just like watching my students panic a little bit, as a smidgen of a joke.

We did do poetry today. We read this poem first and then a few by Dennis Lee. I did show my students where to get poems to read for this unit, too. Lots of places online to find poetry. I'll just remind students to keep any selections appropriate for where we are.

We got "Dignity of Labour" and "On Samsonite assembly line 72" for homework for tomorrow.
